•How
to Pick Your Gatlinburg Cabin
Selecting a Gatlinburg rental cabin...It can be very
confusing. You surf the internet, searching through the many rental
companies and
dozens
of pictures
trying to
find the "perfect" rental cabin for your Gatlinburg vacation. It
can be a difficult process, and, even with the greatest care, you
might not end up with the best possible cabin for your needs. So
the issue
is this: How do you wade through the thousands of cabins available
for rent in the Gatlinburg area to get to the cabin that best suits
your vacation needs?
Our first suggestion is to back away from the computer and put down
the mouse. Pick up a pen and paper and make a short list of the things
that you must have in your cabin. Then you will make a slightly
longer list of the things you would like to have in your cabin. The
last list is
going to be the things that would be nice, but not necessary. These
lists are going to be your search criteria that will help you narrow
down your
choices. Now you will go back to the computer and start your search
for your Gatlinburg rental cabin.
With any luck, in your online searches you have narrowed down your
choice of rental companies to four or five frontrunners & they all have
the ability to do online searches. Using your criteria to narrow your
choices, do a search for the cabins that suit as many of your needs
as possible. After
culling out the cabins that are booked or not suitable you should have
at least one or two cabins from each rental company that will fill
your needs. NOW is the time to call the rental companies. Be sure to
have a sheet
of
paper with each cabin's name on it so you can take down notes for each
one. There are some questions you will want to ask; be sure to take
good notes of the answers you get. (Just as a suggestion I would be
sure to note on
the top of each page the name of the reservations person you spoke
with so you can always follow-up later.)
The questions you will want to ask are as follows: "How close is the nearest neighbor?" "What is the driving distance to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge/Dollywood?" "How many steps up to the first level?" "How steep is the driveway/road to access this unit?"
"What is the final in-the-door price including tax?" "How old is this cabin?" "When was the last renovation of this cabin?"
Once you have answers to all of these questions you should be able to narrow your choices down to just a couple of cabins.
